Was MacArthur or Topaz the originator of the frog jump tactic?
The Wei army was unaware of the lack of food in Pengcheng and attacked the city in a tentative manner. After encountering fierce resistance from the Song army, Tuoba To, fearing another defeat by hanging gourd, gave up the siege and revised the battle plan to take a cross-city attack. Instead of tangling with the Song army in Pengcheng and Shouyang, he crossed the key defense of the big cities and directly killed the Song capital Jiankang. The cross-city operation was fully utilized in World War II, forming a tactical theory. Two famous generals of the U.S. Army, MacArthur and Nimitz, in the Pacific War, gave up the traditional practice of one-line leveling, jumping forward and attacking across the island. The use of naval superiority, avoiding the focus of the Japanese garrison, quickly broke through the defensive line, and achieved brilliant results, and gave this method of warfare took the image of the name, called "frog jump".
The originator of the frog jump tactic is neither MacArthur nor Nimitz, but Takuma. It was a more risky tactic than crossing the island. At that time, the U.S. army had already mastered the air and sea superiority in the Pacific region, the cross island operation was watertight, and the navy was the jump helper. For the Wei army, the cavalry was the springboard. The Wei army did not have the ability to control the entire combat area, and the risk was self-evident. If the Song army in Jinan, Pengcheng and Shouyang cut off the supply lines of the Wei army and outflanked them, it could lead to the total destruction of the Wei army.
Tuoba had great courage and was a military genius. The Wei army retained one of the traditions of the nomads, to take food on the spot. Sun Tzu's Art of War makes it very clear that those who make good use of the army will make good use of the food for the enemy, and this is one of the reasons why the Mongol hordes are so powerful in the world. Battle by battle, lightning attack, straight into the enemy's lair, Tuoba launched another round of rapid attack. The Wei army went south in three ways, attacking and advancing to Shanyang (present-day Huai'an, Jiangsu Province), Hengjiang (present-day Hexian, Anhui Province), and Guangling (present-day Yangzhou, Jiangsu Province). When the Wei army approached the Huaihe River, the advance troops built dozens of rafts and smuggled them across the Huaihe River to the south of the river. When the Song soldiers who were defending the Huai River saw the Wei army suddenly fall from the sky, they panicked and fled in all directions. The Wei army crossed the Huai River and met with a 10,000-strong Song army that came to reinforce Pengcheng at Xuyi. Zang Qi, the main general of the Song army, sent his generals to seize the high mountains east of Xuyi city and built two camps on the mountains, and encamped himself south of the city, forming a hand to block the Wei army by relying on the favorable terrain.
