—— Research experience of "the collision between Chinese and Western cultures in the hometown of overseas Chinese"

If you go home and compare your grandfather with two fingers (a sign of success), what will they do? If your little cousin has a birthday, does he/she choose to eat cake or noodles? Do overseas Chinese wear Hanfu or Western-style wedding dresses when they get married? Do overseas Chinese like listening to foreign songs or China songs?

Living in the information age, living in the hometown of overseas Chinese that is open to the outside world, sparks of collision between Chinese and western cultures can be seen everywhere. Maybe many people are used to it, but as a hometown of overseas Chinese and a foreign language learner, we feel it is necessary for us to experience, explore and think. It is beneficial for us to learn English as a foreign language better, understand the society, know our hometown, pay attention to social problems and social development, expand our knowledge, improve our ability to deal with problems and improve our quality in all aspects. So we are not only excited, but also act immediately.

We interviewed people from all walks of life, men, women and children, from bridal shops to video shops, from libraries to bookstores, from life to the internet. We have made a lot of efforts, but no pains, no gains.

First of all, we found that after the collision between Chinese and western cultures in the hometown of overseas Chinese, China's traditional culture and western culture can be completely organically combined. In the wedding dress shop, we saw designers from overseas Chinese hometown perfectly combine foreign wedding dresses with red, which is the favorite color of brides from overseas Chinese hometown. In terms of diet, we found that people not only like the atmosphere of western restaurants and delicious hamburgers, but also like the "chicken rice" which combines Chinese and western food. Many fast food restaurants serve both Chinese food and western food, which are especially popular with overseas Chinese. In video stores, foreign movies and foreign music are becoming more and more obscure, and the market for some English songs or songs that combine Chinese and Western music is growing, especially among young people and students. In terms of diet, we found that people not only like the atmosphere of western restaurants and delicious hamburgers, but also like the "chicken rice" which combines Chinese and western food.

Secondly, we found that people in the hometown of overseas Chinese quickly absorbed the essence of foreign countries after experiencing the collision between Chinese and western cultures, enriched themselves and made the culture of the hometown of overseas Chinese more vibrant. In addition to celebrating the Spring Festival, people in the hometown of overseas Chinese do not forget to send blessings to their friends at Christmas. In addition to Valentine's Day on July 7th in China, people from the hometown of overseas Chinese did not miss the romantic Valentine's Day in the West. In addition to making zongzi and racing dragon boats on the Dragon Boat Festival, people in the hometown of overseas Chinese began to send their mothers a gift and deep greetings on Mother's Day in May.

Thirdly, we find that after the collision of Chinese and western cultures, the people in the hometown of overseas Chinese have increased their English knowledge and enriched their living language. Many grandparents know English meanings such as "OK", "Thank you" and "Bye- bye", and people also widely use Chinese and western words such as "little case", "cool" and "love show" in their lives. This undoubtedly adds more color to our life.

Of course, we also found that under the impact of western culture on traditional culture, many traditional cultures in our hometown of overseas Chinese are facing crisis. Grandparents said that fewer and fewer people watch Gaojia opera, and many Gaojia operas are facing the fate of dissolution. We also know that there are people in Gaojia Opera who are struggling for the survival of the unique culture of this hometown of overseas Chinese.

In the process of going deep into the society to feel the collision, we find that we have learned a lot of knowledge that is not available in textbooks, and we find that we have grown a lot.

First of all, we learned how to communicate with others better, which increased our social practice ability. Although we hit a wall many times in interviews and questionnaires, we learned from our failures and laid a good foundation for our next success. We understand the society and apply what we have learned, which will further promote us to learn relevant knowledge inside and outside the class.

Secondly, we realize the importance of independent inquiry and cooperative inquiry in the activities. After determining the investigation task, we conducted a multi-channel investigation and study on the influence and collision of Chinese and western cultures in the hometown of overseas Chinese in body language, food culture, clothing culture, audio-visual culture and so on. One of them is to let our students explore independently under the network environment: use the network to collect a large number of pictures, words and other materials, and then concentrate on analyzing and processing information in discussion and communication.

Thirdly, during the activities, we feel that we have enhanced our cross-cultural awareness and improved our humanistic quality. We better understand society, pay attention to social problems, pay attention to social development, and enhance our sense of social responsibility; At the same time, it also expanded the knowledge, improved the ability to deal with problems and improved the quality of all aspects.

Of course, our activities also have many unsatisfactory places, such as being puzzled and misunderstood when asking for a questionnaire; The interview questions are not concise enough or ask questions that the owner does not want to answer; Sometimes the cooperation between classmates is not harmonious. However, we can all face up to the problem and reflect on it. There is an agreement between our members. Next birthday, please eat noodles at noon and cake at night!
