What's the difference between new media and traditional media?

New media is a form of communication that uses digital technology to provide users with information and services through computer networks, wireless communication networks, satellites and terminals such as computers, mobile phones and digital televisions. From the perspective of space, "new media" refers to the media corresponding to "traditional media". Supported by digital compression and wireless network technology, with its large capacity, real-time and interactivity, it can cross geographical boundaries and finally realize globalization.

There are two kinds of new media in a broad sense: one is the change of media form caused by technological progress, especially the media form based on wireless communication technology and network technology, such as digital TV, IPTV (Interactive Network TV), mobile phone terminal, etc. Second, with the change of people's lifestyle, it has existed before, and now it has been applied to the carrier of information dissemination, such as building TV and car TV. In a narrow sense, new media only refers to the first kind of media form based on technological progress.

In fact, new media can be regarded as the product of new technologies, and the latest technologies such as digitalization, multimedia and network are all necessary conditions for the emergence of new media. After the birth of new media, the forms of media communication have undergone earth-shaking changes, such as subway reading and big screen in office buildings. All these have transplanted the content of traditional media to a brand-new communication space.
