What are the differences and characteristics between combinatorial synthesis and traditional synthesis?
Combinatorial chemistry is obviously different from traditional synthesis. The traditional synthesis method can only synthesize one compound at a time; N units of one building block and N units of another building block react at the same time in one step for combined synthesis to obtain n×n compounds; If the reaction is divided into m steps, (n×n)m compounds can be obtained. According to statistics, it takes two to six weeks for a chemist to combine chemical methods, while the traditional synthesis method takes ten chemists a year to complete. Therefore, combinatorial chemistry greatly improved the efficiency of synthesis and screening of new compounds, reduced the consumption of time and funds, and became the focus of chemical research at the end of the 20th century.
