Why are people used to calling China's traditional Chinese painting Danqing and China's traditional Chinese painting Danqing?
1, the earliest ancients had not invented multicolored pigments. Among the few colors such as lead powder, realgar, ochre, azurite and cinnabar, "Dan" (red cinnabar) and "cyan" (blue azurite) are commonly used in ancient paintings. Because "Dan" and "Blue" are the warmest and coldest colors and can produce the most vivid contrast on the picture, the ancients used "Dan Qing" to refer to the picture.
2. Later, Danqing painting developed into two branches of Chinese painting: meticulous painting and heavy color painting. "Dan Qing", however, has always been synonymous with the whole Chinese painting and has been passed down to this day.
