The Siamese crocodile is a protected animal.
The Siamese crocodile is a wild animal that is not native to China, but is a species listed in Appendix I of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), which is equivalent to a national-level protected animal.
Siamese crocodile introduction
Siamese crocodile, also known as Thai crocodile, belongs to the medium-sized crocodile, they are not native to our country, adult Siamese crocodile can grow up to 4 meters, common adult Siamese crocodile is about 2.5~3 meters, hatchling crocodile length of about 25 cm. The Siamese crocodile is mainly found in: Thailand, Lao People's Democratic **** and the country, Cambodia, Indonesia, and later Vietnam introduced the Siamese crocodile.
The Siamese crocodile has a pair of short sharp prismatic ridges in front of each eye socket, and a distinct orbit on the forehead between the two eye sockets, with the scales protruding into a high ridge. The upper body is dark olive-green or light brownish-green with black spots, the tail and dorsum have dark transverse bands of spots, and the abdomen is white or yellowish-white.
The Siamese crocodile inhabits tropical and subtropical swamps, slow-moving areas in protected rivers, lakes and other freshwater, and can also live in brackish and freshwater because of its high salt tolerance. Siamese crocodiles have high temperature requirements, and the temperature of the Huangpu River is a great test for their survival. The Siamese crocodile mainly feeds on fish, but also eats amphibians, reptiles and small mammals.
The wild Siamese crocodile is also very rare due to human activities, and in 1992, the crocodile was no longer seen in its range.
Researchers conducted large-scale searches in many parts of Southeast Asia and eventually found more than 10 wild Siamese crocodile individuals in off-the-beaten-path areas of Cambodia and Thailand, which made them an endangered species from an extinct one.
However, on the whole, the Siamese crocodile is extinct in most of Southeast Asia, and there are still a small number of wild Siamese crocodiles distributed mainly in Laos and Cambodia, and the prospects for their survival, are not optimistic.
