How to paint the floor
1. Remove the carpet from the wooden floor. Cut the carpet and roll it into several sections for throwing in the dustbin. Once all the carpets have been removed, you can start the real wood floor polishing work.
2. smash any protruding nail head into it. There may be some nails on the wooden floor to prevent the floor from creaking, or to fix a loose board. In any case, it is dangerous and annoying to expose nails on the surface of wooden floors. Many times, it is better and easier to smash nails deep into the floor than to pull them out.
Knock the nail into the wooden floor for about half a centimeter. Cover with nails, so that when you knock nails, you won't leave marks on the wooden floor. Hit it in the direction of the nail, not backwards. Once the nail is half a centimeter deep, you can cover the nail head with a little filler after polishing other parts of the wooden floor. Then use more.
3. Make sure the floor is clean. If the back of the old carpet sticks to the wooden floor, it needs to be scraped off with a putty knife. This will be a rather monotonous job, which will take a lot of time, but it's worth it.
If necessary, you can clean the wooden floor with a vacuum cleaner and mop. Years of dust and gravel will produce a lot of muck. You should get rid of these dregs before treating the surface paint of the old wooden floor.
4. Remove any peeling off the edge of the wooden floor. If any wood strips fall off when you peel off the old carpet, remove these wood strips before polishing to polish these areas.
Method 2: Use sandpaper to remove the surface paint of the old wooden floor.
1. Use sandpaper to remove any old, excessively scratched or worn wood. If it is a quick repair procedure, or the wooden floor has just been polished recently, it can be treated with a chemical remover after polishing. However, if you are dealing with areas with heavy traffic, stains or scratches, you'd better smooth these defects with sandpaper before painting the wooden floor.
2. deal with the surrounding area first. Use coarse 180 sandpaper to manually polish the periphery of the wood floor. The polished area should be 10 to 15 cm away from the edge of the wooden floor, so as to ensure that you can completely cover the edge area that the machine sander can't reach.
3. Use a wood floor grinder to manually polish a large area of unfinished wood floor area. You can rent a floor grinder at a hardware store or an equipment rental store.
Start polishing the wooden floor with coarse sandpaper. Gently polish. You don't want to leave a hole in the floor, do you? If you have a good grinder, you can even lift the grinder slightly and spend more time in the badly worn or problematic areas. Replace the sand table as needed. Before completely polishing the floor surface, it may be necessary to change the sandpaper with the same sandpaper specification once or twice to achieve the polishing effect.
Using a pencil, gently draw the whole area so that it is covered with graphite lines. This helps to tell you where it has been polished. Otherwise, it will be difficult for you to know where it has been polished and where it has not been polished.
Then use sandpaper with medium roughness to polish the whole floor. Look at the pencil stripes to determine whether you have polished the area. Third, you may need to replace the grinding disc of the grinder to complete the grinding operation.
4. Collect the sawdust produced by grinding. If you smash the nails exposed from the wood floor into the wood floor in the preparation stage, be sure to save the sawdust, so that you can repair and fill the holes left by the nails hitting the wood floor half a centimeter deep. This will ensure a beautiful and flush wooden floor appearance.
Method 3: Use chemical remover to remove the old paint on the surface.
1. Use chemical remover after grinding. If you want to repair quickly or the wood under the old surface paint is clean and scratch-free, you may only want to use chemical remover instead of polishing the whole floor. If you choose to use chemical remover, you must follow the instructions on the label and take appropriate safety precautions.
Use gloves and goggles to keep the working environment ventilated. This chemical remover is used to remove paint from wood surfaces. Don't let the chemical remover touch the skin, and don't inhale too much chemical remover odor.
2. First try to use chemical remover on the wooden floor of about 0.2 square meters. Don't use too much at first. Don't use it on a large wooden floor at first, because you should leave enough time to clean it.
3. Leave the chemical remover on the floor for about five minutes. Once you have applied the chemical remover to the wooden floor, wait for the suggested time and don't interrupt the process. You will notice that there are bubbles and the stains on the wood dissolve.
Don't wait too long, or the chemical remover will dry on the floor. When you wipe off the chemical remover, it should still be wet.
4. Wipe off the chemical cleaner on the wooden floor. You can take two steps:
Chemical remover for scraping wood floor surface with putty knife.
Use denatured alcohol in disposable aluminum plate, and use steel balls to clean the remaining chemical remover. Don't pour too much denatured alcohol into the aluminum plate, because it will evaporate quickly.
5. Remove the chemical remover from the wooden floor surface according to the manufacturer's instructions. Different chemical removers may require different cleaning methods. Some chemical removers need to be cleaned with turpentine or paint remover, while others can only be cleaned with water.
6. Let the cleaned area dry completely. There should be no water or moisture residue on the cleaned wooden floor working surface; Make sure that the surface of this area is completely dry before proceeding to the next step.
7. Grind any scratched or worn area locally. Before polishing the wood floor, you may need to partially polish any scratched or problematic wood floor areas.
