Function and working principle of gearbox

The function and principle of the gearbox is mainly to change the transmission ratio and expand the torque and speed range of the driving wheel to adapt to the frequently changing driving conditions and make the engine work under favorable conditions. Gearboxes are divided into manual and automatic. Manual gearbox is mainly composed of gears and shafts, which produce speed change and torque through different gear combinations. Automatic transmission realizes speed change and torque change through hydraulic transmission and gear combination.

Working principles of different gearboxes:

1. Principle of manual gearbox: The driving gear on the intermediate shaft is combined with the power output shaft through different gear combinations through the shift lever, thus changing the torque and speed of the driving wheel. The power input shaft of the engine is indirectly connected with the power output shaft through the intermediate shaft.

2. The principle of automatic transmission. Automatic transmission adopts planetary gear mechanism to change speed. It can automatically change the speed according to the degree of the accelerator pedal and the change of the vehicle speed, and the driver can control the vehicle speed only by operating the accelerator pedal.

3. Working principle of AT gearbox, hydraulic torque converter is the most distinctive part of AT, which directly inputs engine power and transmits torque, and has clutch function. The pump wheel will drive the turbine to rotate through the liquid, and then a guide wheel will be added between the pump wheel and the turbine to realize the speed difference between the pump wheel and the turbine through the reaction force, so as to realize the speed change and torque change.
