Ancient China was founded on agriculture, and the combination of agriculture and cottage industry was the basic mode of production in ancient Chinese agricultural society.

Characteristics: family as a unit, men plowing and women weaving, self-sufficiency. Reasons: serious land annexation, peasants have little or no land; servitude, heavy rent, peasants are subject to feudal exploitation, oppression, heavy; productivity level and low productivity; natural disasters and frequent wars.
