Jiahu culture discovered in Jiahu Village, Wuyang County, Henan Province, is about 8000 years ago. Tortoise shells unearthed from Jiahu site are mainly buried turtles, and scattered turtles are also found under the foundation of houses and ash pits. Among the 349 tombs cleared, * * * has 23 buried tortoise shells, some buried groups of carapace and abdominal carapace, buckled with complete tortoise shells, and some buried tortoise shell fragments. There are different numbers of stones in the turtle shell. So many tortoise shells may be the result of barbecue divination, and stones of various colors are also a reflection of divination customs. This shows that as early as 8,000 years ago, our ancestors had the concept of turtle spirit worship and the cognition of using turtle shell as a divination tool.
