Understand color tones and visual effects

Tone is the overall expression of brightness and purity of color. This concept helps people to understand the image of color clearly and simply. In the complex and diverse fields of clothing design and makeup, this word appears frequently and can effectively convey the actual image.

According to the color system formulated by the Ministry of Industry of Korea, colors are divided into bright colors, strong colors, bright colors, light colors, extremely light colors, light gray, light colors, gray, dim colors and dark colors.

(1) Bright colors

Bright colors and bright colors belong to the purest bright colors and are suitable for creating gorgeous, bright, intense and exciting images. It can show bold and easy temperament and strong subjective ideology. This group of colors is widely used in summer clothes and sportswear, as well as artistic makeup and image makeup. But in makeup, they are only used as local emphasis colors.

Simple colors can reflect a unique sense of fullness and maturity. Therefore, people generally use it to shape a middle-to-high-end image. It seems very comfortable to use this tone when expressing the rules without losing the image of simplicity, rudeness and urbanization. In terms of makeup, simple colors can be used to express a simple and natural image, and cool colors can be used to create a modern makeup (Figure 2- 14).

(4) Dark tones

Dark colors and shades can express a simple, masculine, firm and heavy image, as well as the unique sense of seriousness of this image. Dark tones lack a sense of splendor and tend to be simple. Because the color difference of this hue is not very big, even if many colors are matched together, it will not be too abrupt. Color itself is not very prominent, generally suitable for shaping a calm and traditional image, very suitable for all kinds of professional wear. In the field of makeup, people mainly use it to create strong, competitive and sexy makeup, which is widely used in artistic makeup.

Visual effect of color

Influenced by space, surrounding colors and object shapes, the visual effects of colors may show great differences. Sometimes, we can choose high-profile colors or colors with certain meanings according to specific occasions and purposes.

(1) warm color/cool color

The cold and warm feeling of color mainly depends on the hue of three attributes of color. Colors can be divided into warm colors, cool colors and neutral colors.

Generally speaking, the longer the wavelength, the warmer the color, and the shorter the wavelength, the colder the color. However, according to the change of the surrounding environment, light green, green, purple, purple and other colors can appear warm and cold, and these colors belong to neutral colors.

The representative colors of warm colors are red, orange and yellow, which can give people a warm feeling and stimulate the nerves.

The cyan, blue, turquoise and other colors in the cool color system give people a comfortable and even cold feeling, which has the effect of calming the nerves.

The neutral colors of light green, green, purple, fuchsia and achromatic color will hardly make people feel warm or cold directly.

(2) Forward color/Reverse color

The visual position of some colors is ahead of the actual physical position. In other words, the visual distance of some colors is closer than the actual distance. This color belongs to progressive color. Generally speaking, warm colors, high-definition colors and high-purity colors are all progressive colors. Contrary to the above phenomenon, it is backward color. General cool color, low lightness achromatic color and low purity achromatic color all belong to regression color. Forward color and backward color are mainly caused by hue difference.

In interior decoration design, we can make full use of this feature. If the forward color and backward color are used reasonably in a narrow space, a wider and more spatial atmosphere can be created.

(3) Expansion color/contraction color

The swollen color causes the swelling effect visually, making the object look bigger than it really is. This color system mainly includes warm colors and high-definition colors. On the contrary, cool colors and low lightness colors belong to the contraction color system.

When matching clothes, bloated bodies and thin bodies are generally decorated by the expansion and contraction effect of colors.

(4) Dark/light color

Brightness is the biggest factor affecting color perception. Therefore, the difference in lightness directly determines the thickness of color. The color of warm color series generally feels lighter, while the color of cool color series generally feels heavier. Bright colors with high brightness give people the feeling of softness, lightness and light weight. The dark color with low lightness is deep and has a sense of weight.

The same object, if the upper part is light and the lower part is heavy, will look safe and secure. On the contrary, it will appear top-heavy and disturbing.

In the construction site, if the fence on the site is painted with high-definition color, it will be much lighter visually, which can obviously improve the work efficiency of the construction personnel.

(5) tough color/soft color

Things with high purity, dark color and cold color generally look tough, while things with low purity, bright color and warm color make people feel soft. Purity is the main reason that affects the difference between tough and soft vision.

Developers and designers of daily necessities often use this function. According to the different uses and characteristics of goods, if we make good use of the soft and hard characteristics of colors, the popularity of goods with the same quality can be greatly improved.

(6) Excited color/calm color

High purity colors in warm colors can often induce psychological excitement. On the contrary, the low-purity color in the cool color system has a calming effect.

Bright and vivid colors will appear vibrant, lively and energetic. Dark colors can create a sinking atmosphere and make people calm down easily.

Today, this function is applied to the treatment of mental patients. Putting excited patients in the blue room and depressed patients in the red room can often get more effective treatment results.
