Scorpions are raised at room temperature, but how to raise them in winter?

Breeding steps of scorpions in winter

I. Venue buildings and equipment

Scorpions are afraid of strong light and like darkness. Scorpion farms should be built in the leeward, sunny, large lighting area, good drainage, clean and quiet places. At the same time, they should avoid places where highly toxic pesticides may be used. It is forbidden to keep scorpions in places where natural enemies such as poultry, birds, geckos, scorpions, frogs and mice haunt.

There are many ways to breed scorpions, from small-scale breeding in pots, cans and boxes to large-scale breeding in pools, houses and honeycombs. No matter which feeding method, the basic principle is to simulate the natural living environment of scorpions and create comfortable living conditions for scorpions.

(1) The pool for raising scorpions can be built indoors or outdoors. Generally, the pool size is 0.5m high, width 1m, and the length depends on the actual situation. The outer wall of the pool can be blocked with a small amount of mortar to prevent scorpions from escaping from the gap.

On the inside of the pond near the top opening, before the mortar is dried, smooth materials such as glass and porcelain can be embedded to prevent scorpions from escaping from the top opening. In the center of the pool, about 15cm away from the four sides, bricks and stones are stacked in layers with a gap of about 1.5cm for scorpions to inhabit.

(2) Use wooden boards or waste wooden boxes or plastic boxes directly, and surround the box mouth with plastic film or glass strips to prevent scorpions from escaping. The bottom of the box is covered with 2 cm of sand, and some bricks and cinders are placed on the soil for scorpions to move and inhabit.

Second, seed selection

Choose strong, big and active scorpions as breeding scorpions. Every square meter, 3,000 scorpions aged 2-3, 4-5 scorpions/kloc-0.5 million, 800 scorpions aged 6 and 600 scorpions are cultivated. Put the adobe in the scorpion nest, and there should be a gap to facilitate the scorpion to inhabit and breed.

Third, feed.

Artificial rearing of earthworms is the main source of scorpion feed. Dig a soil pit, bury animal manure, small animal carcasses and relatively fertile soil in the pit, introduce earthworms as seeds, water the pit regularly to keep it moist, dig it out regularly after breeding to a certain amount, scald it with boiling water, chop it up and feed it to scorpions. The feeding amount should not be too much each time, so as not to rot and deteriorate after rest.

Tenebrio molitor and Eupolyphaga can also be cultivated. During the growing period of scorpions, they can be fed once every three days. Although scorpions can be hungry for several days at a time, they are not hungry on the same day and eat at the same time, so it is best to keep feeding every day. The feeding amount should be moderate, and it is enough to see the musk deer have a little left the next day.

Fourth, breeding.

Generally, artificially bred scorpions only need 10 ~ 12 months to reach sexual maturity. The male-female ratio of scorpions is 1: 3. Scorpions are oviparous animals. It takes about 40 days for the fertilized egg to complete the embryonic development in the mother and produce young scorpions. Because scorpions are warm animals and cannot maintain their body temperature, they must be heated when they are raised artificially. Female scorpions give birth at a time, with an average of 30 per litter.

Extended data

When the density of scorpions is too high, the food supply, activity space and living environment are tight, which will lead to the self-sparseness of the population, that is, through the mutual restriction within various groups, the population density will be reduced and a new balance will be achieved. For example, cannibalism is a kind of cannibalism that occurs when the density of scorpions is too high or the supply of food and water is insufficient.

Killing each other is mainly manifested in the fact that big scorpions eat small scorpions, strong scorpions eat weak scorpions, and normal scorpions eat scorpions that are molting. In severe cases, it may even cause the mother scorpion to eat the newborn scorpion. In addition, when the density of scorpions is too high, on the one hand, it will cause mutual interference and crowded collision during the growth and development of scorpions, which will not only affect the normal molting growth, but also affect the feeding and weight gain, resulting in slow growth and development.

On the other hand, during the breeding period of the female scorpion, it will also affect the mood of the female scorpion, interfere with the process of fertilization, embryo development and calving, cause stillbirth and stillbirth, and reduce the reproductive rate. Moreover, due to the high density of scorpions, food shortage, competition and fighting often occur in the feeding process, which is not conducive to the normal growth and development of scorpions.
