What are the main forms of container cultivation in protected fruit tree production?

Potting: Pots (commonly known as mud pots) are generally 30-40 cm in diameter and about 40 cm deep. 1 ~ 2 air holes can be drilled at the bottom of the basin, and several air holes are drilled around the basin wall, with the aperture of 1.0 ~ 2.0 cm. The pot is filled with fertile and breathable matrix soil, and fruit trees are planted, then the pot and fruit trees are buried in the soil, arranged according to the designed plant spacing, and then cultivated in the shed.

Bag planting: plastic woven bags or industrial non-woven fabrics are used to bag the matrix soil, and fruit trees are planted in bags, and then buried in greenhouse soil for facility cultivation.

Box planting: Fruit trees are planted in boxes, mainly in corrosion-resistant plastic boxes, and wooden boxes or cartons can also be used. A plurality of air holes can be drilled in the box wall.

No matter which container cultivation method is used, the vertical growth and distribution of roots are restricted, and the horizontal growth and distribution of roots are forced or induced by the limited volume of containers, and the category composition of roots is also adjusted accordingly. It is particularly noteworthy that in container cultivation and soil management, we should make full use of the root edge effect of fruit trees to regulate fertilizer and water, which is beneficial to the growth and development of fruit trees in protected areas.
