Is the traditional martial arts novel in decline?

I like listening to adults tell stories about martial arts since I was a child. After entering primary school, reading martial arts comics is my main pastime. 1960 When I first entered junior high school, most of my classmates began to read martial arts novels. At that time, Taiwan Province Province was the heyday of martial arts novels, and there were countless writers and works of martial arts novels. At the beginning, after class or holidays, everyone immediately went to the martial arts novel rental store to report. Later, they were fascinated by it. Even when they were at school, they put a lot of martial arts novels in their schoolbags and brought them to the classroom. I remember being found by a teacher once and being punished for standing all afternoon.

At that time, there were many writers of martial arts novels, such as Sima Ling, Longsheng Wo, Zhuge Qingyun, Shangguan Ding, Xiao Yi and Murong Mei. This is what we often read. Later, Jin Yong collected all kinds of famous works, and combined with the writing methods based on historical years and characters, the martial arts novels came to the Jin Yong era, almost fixed on a statue.

In the early 1970s, Jin Yong stopped the creation of new martial arts novels and began to sort out and revise fifteen martial arts masterpieces that had been completed. At that time, TV media gradually became the mainstream of people's entertainment, and the upsurge of novels was not as good as before. The number of new readers reading martial arts novels has gradually decreased, and the development of traditional and new martial arts novels has come to an end. Therefore, it is understandable to call Jin Yong's martial arts works "unprecedented".

At that time, there was an unforgettable writer, that is, Gu Long. Gu Long's early martial arts works were lacking, but in the years before and after Jin Yong's closing, Gu Long's writing changed and made a major breakthrough. He integrated the skills of detective stories into the martial arts world. The systematic story of Gu Long's masterpiece Little Li Fei Island uses the technique of detective novel. Later, Chu Liuxiang, Lu Xiaofeng, Liu and other protagonists in Gu Long's works were all heroes and detectives in essence. In Gu Long's martial arts detective novels (as I described them), the protagonist usually has high martial arts and wisdom as soon as he appears. Against the background of ancient time and space, fight against the evil forces in the rivers and lakes and solve many mysterious cases. Martial arts novels depict vivid characters, while detective novels value suspense layout and story development. Gu Long's mid-term novels combine these two characteristics very well and write wonderful novels. Gu Long is the first writer to make a breakthrough in martial arts novels after Jin Yong reached the peak of traditional and new martial arts novels, especially in dealing with the emotions and dialogues between characters. Unfortunately, Gu Long died young.

Thirteen or four years after Gu Long's death, due to the vigorous development of various media, especially electronic media, it is more difficult for novels to develop across national boundaries and cultures. On the new martial arts novels, it is more difficult than Jin and Gu. Although several cutting-edge martial arts novel writers headed by Wen Ruian are still working hard, it is difficult for martial arts novels to return to the grand occasion and glory of that year.

I've always wanted to write martial arts novels since the establishment of the studio tomorrow. On the one hand, it is your own interest. On the other hand, martial arts novels are indeed the quintessence of China. Recently (2003), I am writing a martial arts novel, which is expected to be divided into eight parts. The main historical background is in the Qin Dynasty. I first spent a lot of time reading, textual research and plot layout, starting with Jing Ke stabbing Qin, introducing Confucianism and a hundred schools of thought contending at that time. This is a great attempt. I always believe that Wushu is the common language of Chinese people all over the world, and it is worth carrying forward. Let me show you this! Hey, that's it! ! !
