Introduction of Mongolian surnames
1. Traditionally, Mongolians have no strict surnames. Mongolians usually use their tribal names before their names, but tribal names as surnames are not directly connected with people's names, so Mongolians usually have only first names and no surnames. Since the 20th century, many Mongolians have taken the surname of the Han nationality as their surnames. In 1997, Mongolia promulgated the Surnames Law, which stipulated that Mongolian nationals should choose the names of historical figures or ancestors as surnames.
2. There are four main sources of Mongolian and Han surnames: tribal names as surnames. Take the family name as the surname. Take the name of the ancestor as the surname. Take China's surname as the surname directly.
