Marriage custom of Yi nationality
Many ancient customs such as splashing water, discrediting face, crying for marriage, fasting before marriage, and "confinement" after marriage have been preserved in Yi weddings. Yi men and women should hold an engagement ceremony before getting married. When they get engaged, they should first get married with good luck. Both men and women should kill pigs and take the gall bladder and pancreas to watch. The gallbladder is yellow, and the pancreas is fat. If the pancreas is curly, it will be fierce, indicating that it cannot be matched.
The wedding date is selected according to the date of birth of both parties, and is usually held in the golden season after the autumn harvest from November to February of the following year. The best day is when the six stars are parallel to the moon, which the Yi people call "Tabo". Best age for marriage is 17 and 19. If a woman is not married after 17 years old, she will have another bar mitzvah.
