According to legend, Cowherd is a young and poor shepherd boy. He lives a lonely life, and only a loyal cow accompanies him. Weaver girl is a fairy girl in the sky. She has beautiful appearance and knitting skills. On July 7th every year, in China, also known as China's Valentine's Day, the Weaver Girl will leave the Heavenly Palace and take a bath by the river on earth. In an accidental meeting, the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl fell in love.

However, their love was opposed by the Emperor of Heaven. The Emperor of Heaven thought that the world and heaven could not be intertwined, so he took the Weaver Girl back to the Heavenly Palace. Cowherd was heartbroken, but his loyalty and sincere love touched God. Finally, the Emperor of Heaven allowed the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl to meet once a year on Tanabata, but only on the Galaxy Bridge built by magpies.

This bridge is the acacia bridge, which symbolizes the love and firm commitment between the cowherd and the weaver girl. On Tanabata every year, people will pray to Cowherd and Weaver Maid on this day, hoping that they can find true love or maintain a good love relationship.
