What are Taoist priests and alchemists? What is the difference?
Alchemist: One who worships divination and advocates alchemy. It appeared not later than the Zhou Dynasty, flourished in the Qin and Han Dynasties, and gradually formed a special group of alchemists, the so-called Fang or Xianfu. There are also different factions, breathing, eating fairy medicine, temple alchemy, calling gods to disintegrate ghosts. The immortal thought and its magic became the core content and spiritual pillar of Taoism in later generations.
Taoist priests are more pious, while alchemists are more mysterious. Taoist priests have a broader connotation, while alchemists refer to people engaged in medicine, divination, astrology and similar occupations. Taoist priests, as the inheritors of Taoism, still exist today, while alchemists died out in the Han Dynasty because of the attack of scholars in the Western Han Dynasty.
Simply put, Taoist priests include alchemists, and alchemists refer to those who master special skills among Taoist priests.
