Pipa Language is a piece of pure music composed by Lin Hai and played by Jiang Yan. A pure music without lyrics. It is included in Lin Hai's album Pipa Phase released on June 1, 2003.

"Pipa Phase" was not only used as the soundtrack for the movie "Letter from a Strange Woman", but also appeared as the soundtrack for many film and television programs, such as the TV series "Phoenix Wears Peony", and the feature on Li Qingzhao in the Central 10th set of The Hundred Schools of Lecture Theatre.

Compositional Background:

The composition of the melody of Pipa Language The process was very quick, it only took five minutes to write.

While composing it, Lin Hai specifically asked the player Jiang Yan to play the various tones that the pipa might produce, and got a lot of inspiration from that.

Lin Hai utilized every possible way to express the pipa, using the compositional and arranging techniques of world music and classical music, mixing Western instruments such as the piano, guitar and bass, with traditional Chinese instruments such as the flute, xiao, erhu and sanxian, as well as ethnic singing and elements from ethnic minorities such as Mongolia, Tibet and Africa.

Additionally, there is a female voice in "Pipa Language" that is hummed by Gong Linna.
