Main contents of batik

Batik was called "Wax Valley" in ancient times. One of the traditional folk printing and dyeing processes. This is a traditional manual printing and dyeing technology, using wax as anti-dyeing material. According to textual research, the earliest and most accurate record of the word batik in the literature is "Duo Valerian" in Volume 50 of "The Sound and Meaning of Various Classics" written by Huilin in Tang Dynasty: "There is light juice in western countries today, and when it is made, it becomes Valerian, so it is also wax." "Valle" is a fabric dyed with auxiliary dyes to assist the printing and dyeing process. The appearance of the valley marks the great progress of ancient silk printing and dyeing technology in China. Batik is still very popular among Buyi, Miao, Yao and Gelao nationalities, and dresses, blankets and bags are often decorated with batik. The main method is to dip a wax knife into wax liquid, draw geometric patterns or flower, bird, insect and fish patterns on white cloth, then immerse them in indigo vats (mainly blue), and dewax them with water to show the patterns. Strict structure, smooth lines, interesting decoration and distinctive national style.

The invention of batik is based on people's repeated understanding and utilization of material characteristics, which requires certain environmental factors and technical conditions, so it is produced and developed under specific material conditions and cultural background. Batik is based on people's need for clothing beautification, and it is produced after human civilization has advanced to a certain extent. It is carried out on the basis of various dyeing and weaving processes, so batik should be produced after the maturity of textile, printing and painting. From the perspective of raw materials, batik has no special requirements for fabrics, such as cotton, hemp, silk and wool. Anti-dye materials are not limited to specific varieties, and animal and plant waxes can be used, generally resin and beeswax; Dyeing can only be done by cold dyeing process, generally plant dyeing, mainly indigo. From the scope, batik technology exists in many parts of the world, and its styles and ways of use are also varied. Due to the influence of geography and climate, batik is not suitable for cold regions in the north, so batik is distributed in tropical and subtropical regions.
