What are the types of Chinese orchids? What are their characteristics?
Each one. Classification of orchids (1) Classification according to growth habits. According to the living habits and lifestyle of orchids, orchids can be divided into three categories: saprophytic orchids, epiphytic orchids and terrestrial orchids.
1. Saprophytic orchids There are few types of saprophytic orchids and are generally rarely seen.
It is mainly distributed in temperate and tropical areas and mainly grows on the ground. It is difficult for our families to cultivate this type of orchid.
Because the saprophytic orchid itself has no green leaves and no chlorophyll, it cannot carry out photosynthesis through light.
Its growth mainly relies on fungi to obtain nutrients.
The traditional Chinese medicine we know: Gastrodia elata, is the saprophytic orchid we can see.
Gastrodia elata has no root system, no leaves, cannot take in light, and cannot perform photosynthesis. It mainly relies on Armillaria bacteria to supply nutrients for growth.
2. Epiphytic orchid: First, it is also called raw orchid or air-growing orchid.
Because it is an orchid that lives on rocks, trunks or branches, grows on moss and humus, and does not absorb nutrients in its body, it obtains water and nutrients from the air through aerial roots. It is also called an orchid or aerial orchid.
Raw orchid.
Second, it is also called tropical orchid.
Mainly because of its geographical distribution, it grows concentratedly in tropical forests and subtropical forests, mainly epiphytes on the host surface, so it is also called tropical orchid.
Under normal circumstances, the leaves of epiphytic orchids are relatively broad and thick, which can carry out photosynthesis; and the flowers are relatively large and brightly colored, but it is difficult to smell the fragrance; at the same time, its flowers are curved and drooping.
Common varieties include: Phalaenopsis, Cattleya, Vanda orchid, fragrant orchid, dendrobium, oncidium, etc.
Earth-born orchids Earth-born orchids refer to orchids that grow in the soil on the ground, so they are called earth-born orchids.
Its root system is ground-rooted, unlike epiphytic orchids, which are aerial-rooted.
