Zhu Maichen. Sprinkle water before the horse.
Probably a Peking Opera script published in the 1950s after liberation.
Sprinkling Water before the Horse tells the story of Zhu Maichen's failure in the imperial examination nine times in Han Dynasty. Cui Shi, his wife, was so poor that he forced Zhu to write a divorce certificate and marry someone else. After Zhu graduated from high school, Cui Shi knelt in front of his horse, and Zhu poured a pot of cold water, saying that if the water can be recovered, Cui Shi can be reclaimed.
