Shaolin Temple was built during the reign of Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty. At that time, the Buddhist monk in the Western Regions (namely Batuo) came to Datong to preach in the Northern Wei Dynasty and won the respect of Emperor Xiaowen. In the twentieth year of Taihe, the Northern Wei Dynasty moved its capital to Luoyang, and the Buddha accompanied the south. Emperor Xiaowen built a Zen forest in Luoyang for him to give lectures in Buddhist temples, while the Buddha liked quiet mountains and valleys and went to Song Yue many times. After the death of the eminent monk, Emperor Xiaowen ordered a temple to be built for the Buddha in Shaoshi Mountain and named it "Shaolin". According to legend, Dharma crossed the river in Guangzhou and Nanjing for three years in 527 and came to Shaolin Temple. On the basis of establishing Buddhist temples, Dharma collected disciples and preached Zen. The temples gradually expanded and the number of monks increased. Shaolin Temple in Songshan Mountain became a Zen ancestor. It is said that Dharma created 72 kinds of Shaolin Boxing during his practice in Shaolin Temple, which is called "72 stunts".

Shaolin Temple is famous not only for its special position in the history of Buddhism, but also for its martial arts. At the beginning of the 7 th century, in the war of Emperor Taizong against the king, Shaolin Temple monks made great contributions and gained great appreciation and support. They erected a monument in Shaolin Temple, chartered Shaolin Temple to set up its own camp and set up monk soldiers, so the wind of talking about martial arts prevailed. In this way, Shaolin Temple actually became the national Wushu exchange center at that time, enabling it to learn from the strengths of many families and gather the essence of Chinese Wushu. After years of research and summary, Shaolin Boxing has gradually developed into a martial arts school with various contents such as boxing equipment, complete system and exquisite routines.

In the second year of Jiande in the Northern Zhou Dynasty (AD 573), Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty banned the spread of Buddhism and Taoism and sent monks and nuns back to Lhasa to visit temples, which were later abandoned. In the Year of the Elephant, Emperor Jing Yuwenyan rebuilt the Buddhist Temple and changed the Shaolin Temple to "Sheba Temple". During the reign of Emperor Huang Kai of the Sui Dynasty, Emperor Wendi restored Sheba Temple to Shaolin Temple, and gave hundreds of hectares of land for monks to live and rest. Since then, the Buddhist cause of Shaolin Temple has been revived. It owns land 14000 mu and has more than 5000 buildings. It has become a famous Buddhist temple at home and abroad and won the title of "the first temple in the world". After the end of Qing Dynasty, Shaolin Temple gradually declined, especially in 17 (A.D. 1928), when warlords scuffled and Shi Yousan set fire to Shaolin Temple, which lasted for 45 days. The famous Shaolin Temple has since become a broken walls. A dilapidated temple, full of tiles, phosphorus and weeds. Shi Yousan is an eternal sinner who destroyed cultural relics.
