Seeking science majors to introduce classical and quantum physics to liberal arts students

Difference between atomic physics and quantum physics:

1. Atomic physics is the branch of physics that studies the structure, laws of motion, and interactions of atoms. It focuses on: the electronic structure of atoms; atomic spectra; and collision processes and interactions between atoms or with other substances.

2. Quantum is an important concept in modern physics. It was first proposed by M. Planck in 1900. He assumed that the radiant energy in blackbody radiation is discontinuous and can only take integer multiples of the fundamental unit of energy. Subsequent studies have shown that not only does energy exhibit this discontinuous separatization property, but other physical quantities such as angular momentum, spin, charge, etc. also exhibit this discontinuous quantization phenomenon. This is fundamentally different from the classical physics represented by Newtonian mechanics. Quantization phenomena are mainly manifested in the microphysical world. The physical theory that describes the microphysical world is quantum mechanics.
