What are the uses and production of ferrosilicon?

Ferrosilicon is an iron alloy composed of iron and silicon. Ferrosilicon is also called ferrosilicon. It is an iron-silicon alloy made of coke, steel chips and timely (or silica) through electric furnace melting. It is widely used in iron and steel industry, foundry industry and other industrial production.

Used as deoxidizer and alloying agent in steelmaking industry. In order to obtain steel with qualified chemical composition and ensure the quality of steel, deoxidation must be carried out in the last stage of steelmaking. Silicon and oxygen have great chemical affinity, so ferrosilicon is a strong deoxidizer for steelmaking, which is used for precipitation and diffusion deoxidation.

Adding a certain amount of silicon into steel can significantly improve the strength, hardness and elasticity of steel, so it is widely used for smelting structural steel (containing 0.40- 1.75% silicon), tool steel (containing 0.30- 1.8% silicon), spring steel (containing 0.40-2.8% silicon) and silicon steel for transformers.

At the same time, improving the shape of inclusions and reducing the content of gas elements in molten steel is an effective new technology to improve steel quality, reduce cost and save iron. It is especially suitable for deoxidation requirements of continuous casting molten steel. Practice has proved that ferrosilicon not only meets the deoxidation requirements of steelmaking, but also has desulfurization performance, and has the advantages of heavy specific gravity and strong penetration.
