What plot points were added to the extended version of The Lord of the Rings over the theatrical version?

1. Borderline

A very beautiful scene. Gloom leads the way ahead of two hobbits. The two see a huge monument and statue. In this scene, the sky is not digitally manipulated. The sky is getting darker... It's a cursed place. In this scene, you will see the title "The Return of the King"

2. Saruman

Saruman's conversation with Gandalf, Théoden, and the rest of the party will be featured in the DVD Extended Cut. Saruman stands on a balcony and attempts to confuse the crowd through flowery speech, only to be recognized by Gandalf. Both Saruman and the Three-inch Tongue then climb to the top of the tower. Saruman threatens Three-Inch-Tongue with a knife, treating him like a dog, and this time Three-Inch-Tongue fights back by grabbing the knife and throwing it at Saruman. Saruman was stabbed with the knife, but "Three Inch Tongue" did not fare well either, and was shot with an arrow by Legolas from the tower.

Rumor has it that the story of how Saruman's Eye Stone was found may have changed a bit, and it's possible that the Three Inch Tongue threw it at Saruman, and Sar dodged it, and the stone fell from the top of the tower, which I don't think they cut out of the Extended Version, and that's what we see later on, when Pippin picks it up out of the water and hands it to Gandalf. Handing it over to Gandalf, I think that would have been the time for Saruman to show up on the balcony. But the exact method of Saruman's death is not 100% certain. It is rumored that in order to film Saruman's death, the crew pre-recorded a variety of methods of death, which were determined in post-production. Another theory is that Saruman fell alone, into the water. You can get some clues from the GBA.

3. Edoras: Merry Allegiance

Throughout the movie, Merry is always loyal to His Majesty Théoden, and why? It's like in the first trailer: Théoden awards Merry the title of Knight of Rohan, gives him a sword, and Merry agrees to serve. Dialogue: "I offer you my service, King Theoden," and Merry earns the honor of knighthood.

4. Edoras: Iorin and Iomo a conversation about Merry

As we saw in the theatrical version, Iomo is skeptical about Merry's ability to fight in the war. In the extended version, this conversation will be more of a reflection of the sibling bond. The existence of this scene is confirmed by Making-Off-Video, as the director does mention a "sibling love" scene.

5. Edoras: The "Drinking Contest" at the Celebration Feast

After returning from the victory at Eisengard, Aragorn, Merry, Gimli, Théoden and the rest of the party return to Edoras. While Merry and Pimpey are dancing and singing at the table, and while Aragorn and Gandalf are talking about Froh ...... Here, the extended version also features an interesting scene (perhaps not in the original) in which the two men, Legolas and Gimli, compete in a drinking contest. The dialogue is as follows:

Legolas: "So, it''s a drinking game?"

Legolas. "What exactly is the point of it?"

Gimli: "Last one standing wins."

6. Edoras: Aragorn and Euron

This scene puts the focus back on Euron's emotions, as she is fretting about not being able to fight. Originally, the published episode said that Aragorn had come to comfort her, but now there are rumors that Aragorn has encouraged her, saying that the two of them will go to the battlefield together.

7. Edoras: More Discussion

In Edoras, Aragorn and Gandalf discuss their plans. There's more dialogue in the extended version.

Gandalf: "If the ring is destroyed, Sauron will fall and his fall will be so low that none will see his arising ever again ... but if Sauron regains the ring, his victory will be swift and complete. Things are now in motion that cannot be undone. Sauron has looked into the face of young Peregrin Took and mistaken him for the Ringbearer".

Aragorn: "He has gone unchallenged long enough."

8. Edoras: A Different Kind of Farewell

Merry and Pippin say a sad goodbye. Merry encourages Pippin that they will meet again in the Shire. As far as I know, this scene has been replaced, and we will not see this scene in the extended version, nor will we hear the line "We shall see the Shire again"

9. Edoras: A Different Goodbye II

When Gandalf and Pippin leave the Shire, Merry and Pippin make a sad goodbye. >When Gandalf and Pippin leave, Aragorn tells Merry that Pippin will only be safe in the city of Minas Tirith, because Sauron has assumed that Pippin is the bearer of the Ring, and that is why Gandalf took him with him. In the theatrical version, Aragorn says nothing. Before Pippin leaves, Aragorn gives him the Elf's leaf brooch.

10, Traveling to Gondor in Reverse

Gandalf and Pippin traveled for three days, but the trip ended too soon. In the movie Gandalf rides a horse that always gallops from right to left, but in the trailer he gallops from left to right and it looks dark. It's likely that this part of the journey was given greater weight in the extended version, and it's unlikely that it would have been as simple as a careless mistake or just a reversal of direction for the cinematographers; there's definitely something going on there.

11, More Conversation Between Aragorn and Ioannes

Before they leave, as Aragorn walks toward his horse, he asks Ioannes if she's going along. E said she was not going, she was just seeing the warriors off, an old tradition of theirs, but Aragorn realized that E was quietly carrying a sword. The following extended section follows the above scene.

12, Rivendell

Elwyn and King Elrond's scene in Rivendell will be extended. In the trailer, King Elrond tells his daughter that he will no longer protect her. Here's another scene where Elwing throws herself into her father's arms. Could this be connected to her discovery of the "Path of Death" in the book? Elwyn will speak more dialogue in Elvish.

Elrond to Arwen on the bridge: "You have given away your life''s grace. I cannot protect you anymore"

13. Dialogue between Aragorn and King Elrond in the Garrison Tent

King Elrond, after handing Aragorn the sword, says to him "This is your road. Every path you have trod, through wilderness, through war, has led you to this route.", which we heard in the trailer and also in the Making-Off-Video. The extended version basically doesn't erase that.

14, Different Goodbyes No. 3

In the theatrical version, Iolem asks Aragorn if he knows why she's here, and Aragorn replies that he can't accept her love, to Iolem's disappointment. This is different in the extended version of the scene, where Aragorn doesn't disappoint Ioannes; instead, what he says touches Ioannes.

15: "The Road to Death" extended section

There is a corridor after entering the cave, where the floor and walls are full of skeletons and broken bones, and the trio have to be frightened by a sudden bone crumble (too many bones collapsing and sliding down). Something else must have happened when the trio left, because there was blood on Aragorn's sword, and Legolas should have had more dialogue here as well.

Legolas nearly slaughtered director Peter Jackson for scaring Ley by making the cast look like a pirate mark.

In the theatrical version, only a small portion of the Death Road scene was shown, no skeleton, no altar, no blood on the sword, and no pirate mark. I think the extended version will include this, since Gandalf mentions "pirates" twice.

16. Pirate Ships

Gandalf mentions them twice, and they appear twice in the theatrical version: once in Edoras, when Gandalf and Aragorn are discussing which way to go, and again in Minas Tirith, when Gandalf is talking to Pippin, which also involves pirate ships.

After "Death's Road," Gimli, Legolas, and Aragorn defeat the pirates together and board the pirate ship, but have we ever seen these two scenes in the movie? Will they appear in the extended version? Will we see how they board the pirate ship? Yes, we'll get to see it, but there won't be any help from the Ghost Legion here, saving that for later, making a surprise appearance at the Battle of Paranor Plains.

17, Minas Tirith: original scene replaced?

The following scene didn't appear in the movie. I'm guessing it may have been cut out or replaced by another scene. Gandalf and Pippin on the balcony talking about the war and how much hope there is for Frodo and Sam.

18, Minas Tirith: The Magic Eye Stone and the Madness of Regent Dereser

Dereser knew a lot beforehand, he knew that Aragorn would come, and he knew of the attack of the demonic army he faced, and he had long since given up hope. He actually learned all this from the Magic Eye Stone. One of the soldiers reveals that Drexel had foreseen the Great War coming. Gandalf was going to say that Aragorn would come to take Derleth's place, and Derleth called Gandalf a traitor.

Unfortunately, though, John Noble (who plays Drexel) said in an interview that the scene was never filmed. One possibility is a slight mention of the Magic Eye Stone here.

19, Minas Tirith: More dialogue between Faramir and Drexel

Faramir might have admitted to his father that he deliberately broke the rules his father set by setting the Ring-bearers Frodo and Sam free.

Faramir sides with Pippin when he speaks to Derlethar. Drexel says that those who break the rules must be punished. Is it implied here that Faramir actually mentions the hobbits to his father? From a manuscript passage of the script that has been circulating online, it appears that there will be another flashback here about Faramir telling his father about Boromir's death and giving him the broken horn as well. Another scene shows Pippin taking a battle robe from Faramir.

20, The Siege of Minas Tirith: more war scenes

We didn't get to see how the enemy builds their siege weapons in the movie, how the White City falls, and how the enemy uses small hammers to attack the gates at the beginning (the scene in the trailer), which we didn't get to see. But all of this will be shown in the extended DVD outing, where the soldiers of Gondor Castle use arrows to repel the attackers, and we can only see the arrows being shot, but we don't see them drawing their bows.

21. The Siege of Minas Tirith: Gandalf vs. the Ringwraiths

In the movie, the Ringwraiths do say that he will be fighting the white-robed wizard...

Pippin finds Gandalf and together they go to stop the mad Drexel. Gam took a wooden staff and carried Pippin on his horse. But when they get to Drexel, his wooden staff is gone, as if he had just come off the battlefield. Between these two scenes, there is a good chance that it is a confrontation scene between Old Man Gan and the Ringwraith King. But the Ringwraith King was most likely distracted by something (possibly the horn of Rohan's reinforcements or something else) to the point that Gan and Pi escaped without a hitch, who knows, maybe the Ringwraith King didn't want to fight on his mount, or maybe Gandalf didn't like to fight on horseback either, hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe.

22. The plains of Paranor: new war scenes added

There's talk that we'll be seeing more special effects footage in the extended version, and that the skies will be dimmer. There are many possibilities that will appear in these extended war scenes: more Eastling (what's this? I don't know how to translate it :(); more conversations between Euron and the Ringwraith King; Aragorn defeating the leader of the demon army and Gimli stepping up to finish it off with his axe; the demon soldiers battling against the undead legions; and Euron going quite a few rounds with the other demon soldiers in order to protect Mellie after Théoden's death ....

23, Paranor Plains: Iorem and Merry

I was very brave and defeated the Ringwraith King, injuring himself. What happened afterward, none of us saw. But she was later found, grieving for her and cheering for her. The following is a scene of Iomo's grief after finding his sister on the battlefield. (Translation: the author of the original article here may be wrong, we know that Iomo didn't die, Iomo should be grieving for Seodon)

Battlefield Pippin picks up Merry after he finds him. It looked as if Merry's injuries were serious.

24, Pallanor Plain: after the battle

In the movie, we don't see how the wounded warriors are rescued or how Théoden is disposed of. Many feel that this picture shows Seodon's body being transported back inside the city of Minas Tirith, with a possible funeral later on. It can't be as simple as those few scenes of sacrifice on the battlefield, can it?

After the war, Faramir, Euron, and Merry are all wounded, and Aragorn is the only one who can save the wounded. Only the hands of a king have the power to save others. After that, Faramir came together with Ioannes.

26, Minas Tirith: Aragorn Takes the Throne

After healing the wounds of Faramir, Ioannes, and Merry, Aragorn had long since become a king in the eyes of all. After this, Aragorn did take on the role of king, and the following day, a meeting was held to discuss the next arrangements. Gandalf said at the meeting that if Frodo could not destroy the Ring, then Sauron would surely win.

27, Minas Tirith: Aragorn saw through the magic eye stone...

After the meeting, Aragorn decides to communicate with the Magic Eye Stone himself, deliberately letting Sauron know that Isildur's successor has been found.The King of Elessar will unite humanity. 29, Before the Black Gate: Saurons'' Mouth

One of the more gruesome scenes in the book, and one that many people would like to see in the movie, this is a brutal, emotional and imaginative scene. The likelihood of seeing this scene in the extended version is very slim, perhaps in the final battle with Aragorn. It has been said that the metal locking armor that Frodo wears in the movie is placed on the ground, which hints that that scene will be given the benefit of the doubt.

30, Speculation One

The Mouth of Sauron shows Frodo's chain mail to Gandalf and Aragorn to prove that Frodo is dead. We then hear a rather lengthy dialogue between Gandalf, Aragorn, and Sauron's minions. Then the Black Knight disappears, the Black Gate begins to open, and the enemy forces begin to gather. We also see some footage of Frodo and Sam before the camera switches back to the Black Gate again.The Saurons'' Mouth reappears and begins to attack, Aragorn defeats it, though the warhorse dies. The camera cuts back to Sam, who is fighting Grumm. Back at the Black Gate, the Eastlings are defeated, Aragorn regroups the remnants of his forces, and the next thing we remember are the words "For Frodo!"

31, Speculation Two

No one knows how accurate this speculation is. much, for no one has ever seen Saurons'' Mouth, the mount on which Aragorn died in battle, the body of the Eastlings ............ Other than that, we know that Aragorn gathered his troops in front of the Black Gate with his sword still unsheathed. When he rides back, his sword is in his hand and there is blood on it and traces of dirt on his face, so does that mean Saurons'' Mouth was taken out in the first place? The loss of the warhorse was just a cover? Anyway, in the book "Lord of the rings - Weapons and Warfare" there is a write up of Saurons'' Mouth's death (or defeat)

Whatever one does say, we'll definitely see more scenes in this episode. As seen in Making-Off-Video, Gandalf had said to Aragorn "We are being watched". Suggesting that new material is going to be added to the extended version... Or maybe we won't see anything at all?

32. The Black Gate: Re-formatting

If speculation one is correct, and Aragorn leads the troops to gather in front of the Black Gate, then this photo illustrates the process.

33, Black Gate: Pippin holding Merry

Where does this scene take place? The image below could be Merry being brought back to Minas Tirith after Pippin has been taking care of him. It's unlikely that this is an image from the Paranor battlefield, as neither of them are wearing helmets. There are also rumors that this is in front of the Black Gate. Another theory is that Merry collapses in despair upon hearing the news that Frodo is dead, though this is highly unlikely. We see not many people in the background of both of them in the picture, is it possible that Merry was injured?

34, Black Gate: A different kind of fight?

In the movie Aragorn fights the trolls, but another theory is that Pippin killed the trolls, just like in the book, maybe an explanation will be given in the extended version. Also, in the TV game, Legolas saves Gimli's life, so maybe we'll see that in the extended version too.

35, Mordor: Extras

Something else happens after Frodo plays dead. Sam took Frodo's sword, both hobbits changed into the armor of the demon soldiers, and on the road also ran into the demon soldiers again, but due to the armor they wore, they were not recognized and had a false alarm.

36, Minas Tirith: The New Birth of the Tree and the Wedding

Gandalf points to the reborn tree and shows it to Pippin. Aragorn's wedding to Elwing, Faramir's wedding to Eorlwyn together - I can't believe both of these scenes were filmed in? We might see Iomo wearing Rohan's crown. After that people said their goodbyes.

It was supposed to end with the Queen of the Elves reading a narration explaining what happened to each character afterward - just like at the beginning of the first movie. The movie doesn't have this narration in it, though.

I'm sure we'll see more scenes after the Hobbits return to the Shire. That's because New Line has been keeping these photos well under wraps and hasn't put the relevant footage in the movie. Maybe we'll find out why Frodo ends up leaving on a boat.

Like the extended versions of the first two episodes, this one is sure to be even more intense and exciting as well.
