Are there any precautions before anoscopy?

1. Patients should empty their feces. Before anoscopy, patients should try to empty their intestines and keep the lower intestinal cavity clean. Patients can take corresponding laxatives to completely empty their feces, and try not to choose drugs that are too irritating, especially those with symptoms such as bloody stool, prolapse or pain.

2. Take lateral position or lithotomy position. Let the patient take the lateral position or lithotomy position to fully expose the anus. Before the examination, let the patient take a deep breath to relax the perianal sphincter completely.

3, the operator should wear gloves, coated with lubricant. The operator's right hand had better wear gloves and apply lubricant. First, palpate the skin and tissue around the anus to preliminarily judge whether there is a lump and tenderness around the anus. We should follow the principle of slow advance and slow retreat, lubricate the anoscope and then insert it slowly. Don't insert it suddenly, so as not to cause sphincter spasm and pain.

4. Test the tightness of sphincter, and check the rectal wall for tenderness, lump, fluctuation or stenosis after insertion. If you touch a lump, determine its size, location and hardness. Male patients can touch the prostate and female patients can touch the cervix. Don't mistake these for lumps. If necessary, do a double river needle examination to observe whether there is blood or mucus after withdrawal.
