What are the unique folk customs in Guigang, Guangxi?
The "ox soul festival", also known as the "ox king festival", is a day to worship the ox god. However, the festivals of all ethnic groups are not exactly the same. Some are held the day after spring ploughing, some are fixed on the eighth day of April, and some are held on the sixth or sixteenth day of June or even after the autumn harvest.
On the day of Cow Soul Festival, each household brought a basket of five-color glutinous rice and fresh grass to the cowshed to sacrifice the cow soul, and then fed the cows with the five-color glutinous rice and fresh grass. It is said that this can reassure cows and ensure their safety, and it is also a comfort to cows for their hard work over the past year. In some places, cows will rest on the festival of cattle soul.
