What characterizes the development of Indian music?

Because Indian linear music, aural perception, aesthetic habits and meter, and the complex and subtle Indian sonorities are all different and contrasting from the Western polyphonic music system built on the twelve equal temperament. Therefore, in the journey of modern Indian music, more emphasis has been given to traditional music. However, the influx of Western popular music due to the development of mass communication media, especially cinema and radio, had a great impact on Indian film music. Film music absorbed certain Western musical techniques and used orchestral accompaniment, but retained Indian characteristics such as still singing with traditional vocal ornamentation. In other words, in the exchange with Western music, it can be seen that Indian music has been able to develop on the basis of traditional music, and its film music has had a great impact in Southeast Asia, the Middle East and many parts of Africa.
