Where does Tu Youyou's great medical wealth come from?
Artemisinin is extracted from Artemisia annua by medical and health scientists in China who inherit the medical heritage of the motherland and use modern scientific knowledge and methods. The successful preparation of artemisinin draws lessons from many traditional Chinese herbal medicine books in China, such as Elbow Backup Emergency Prescription by Ge Hong, a famous doctor in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, Danxi Heart Method in the Yuan Dynasty, Puji Prescription in the Ming Dynasty and Compendium of Materia Medica by Li Shizhen in the Ming Dynasty. However, the records of these medical books are not very detailed, and their scientific basis is not explained. Researcher Tu Youyou took these medical books as important references, got inspiration from Ge Hong's prescription of "One liter of Artemisia annua is stained with water and squeezed juice" in the Eastern Jin Dynasty, combined with his own thinking and experiments, and finally successfully extracted artemisinin. If we completely denied China's ancient science, there would be no green elements today!
