What festival is the Dragon Head Festival?
The traditional dragon head festival, also known as the Spring Festival, happens to be the second day of February in the lunar calendar every year. Dragon Head Festival is one of the traditional festivals in China, and it is also a traditional festival in rural China. Legend has it that dragons look up. On the day of the Dragon Head Festival, people all over the country will hold a "Dragon Head Festival" celebration ceremony to show their respect for the dragon and pray for rain and let God bless the harvest.
The ancient astronomical phenomena "On February 2nd, the dragon looks up" is an ancient proverb, and the Dragon Head Festival is also related to the ancient astronomical phenomena. Every year on the night of the second day of the second lunar month, the stars in the black dragon begin to emerge from the east, and the horns representing the dragon horns begin to appear on the horizon of the east. About an hour later, the dragon's throat rose from the horizon and its claws appeared at midnight. This is the process of "the dragon looks up". Every day after that, the date of "the dragon looks up" is about a little earlier. After more than a month, the whole "faucet" was "lifted". Later, this day was given multiple meanings and sustenance, and evolved into "Dragon Head-raising Festival" and "Spring Dragon Festival".
According to folklore, the Dragon Head Festival on February 2nd is said to be Yao Wang's birthday, and some people say it is the birthday of the land father-in-law, which is called "land birthday". Moreover, in the ancient godhead pedigree, the dragon is the god in charge of rainfall, and the amount of rainfall is directly related to the harvest of a year. Therefore, in order to let the dragon gods walk in the clouds and rain, on the second day of February, they will put confessions in front of the Dragon Temple, hold a grand sacrifice ceremony, and sing big plays to entertain the gods.
