In the latter case, cations in the solution are deposited on the cathode, while metal ions cannot be replenished through the anode, so the electroplating solution must be replenished from outside to keep the concentration constant.

Precautions before electroplating:

Before electroplating, the surface of the plated parts should be mechanically polished. Among the mechanical polishing methods as pretreatment, the most widely used are: wheel polishing and abrasive belt polishing to obtain a smooth surface; Polishing small workpieces with rollers; There are also wire brush method and liquid honing method which can form matte surface.

If the grease used for polishing is attached to the plated parts, it is particularly harmful to electroplating, and degreasing treatment must be carried out before electroplating.

In addition, the oxide film formed on the metal surface in the air seriously affects the adhesion of the electroplating layer. This oxide film can be dissolved in aqueous solution, such as dilute acid or potassium cyanide. Before electroplating, it should be soaked in these aqueous solutions for a period of time. After cleaning with water, it should be put into electroplating bath for electroplating while the surface is still wet.

In addition, when the atomic arrangement of electroplated metal and base metal is significantly different, the contact surface will have poor bonding, which will make the bonding force worse. Especially in mechanical grinding, when the surface has a thick working metamorphic layer, it is easy to have poor bonding force.
