DPRK: Women who don't wear braids will be severely criticized

North Korea's CCTV has recently been advocating the "braiding of women's hair", saying that "braids are not only good for health, but also help reveal the simple inner world of North Korean women".

According to the TV station, there are three types of hairstyles for women depending on their age. Teenage girls and little girls can wear "double braids", young girls in Korean national costume can wear "single braids", and on the day of the wedding, they can wear "plaited braids", which is to say, plaited braids on the head.

According to the TV station, North Korean women "are now trying to inherit the traditional hair style of the Korean nation and develop it in accordance with the socialist way of life and the tastes of the times".

Recently, the North Korean media have paid special attention to the way people dress. The starting point is that: the dress of any person is inseparable from his/her way of life; to advocate the "socialist way of life", it is necessary to advocate the appropriate dress; and to advocate the appropriate dress is a kind of promotion of the socialist way of life.

From this concept, the North Korean media, while advocating the "good model", also harshly criticized the "bad model". Since late December last year, the North Korean Central Television has constantly criticized those women who prefer long hair to braids.

In addition, young men with "strange dress" and "hair more than 3 centimeters" have been criticized even more severely. Some of the "bad examples" were even exposed on TV, with their names and addresses, as a warning to people.
