Occurrence of sea and land winds
Since the thermal difference in low altitude at night is much less than that during the day, the land wind circulation is weaker than the sea wind circulation, both in terms of airflow speed and circulation height, and the wind speed of the land wind is only 1~2 meters/second.
Sea and land winds develop most strongly in the tropics, and can occur throughout the year, more often than in the temperate and frigid zones. Sea-land winds in mid-latitude regions (such as the Bohai Sea region of China) occur more often in summer and fall than in winter and spring. Sea-land winds occur only in the warm season in high latitudes.
Larger islands, such as Hainan Island in China, also experience sea-land winds. Sea breezes blow from all around the island during the day, and land breezes blow from the island to the surrounding sea at night. The islands and coastal land where sea and land winds prevail are characterized by clouds, rain and fog during the day; clear weather prevails at night.
