Which day of the lunar calendar is the Lunar New Year

Small New Year refers to the 23rd and 24th day of the lunar month.

In the northern part of China, Xiao Nian is mostly on the 23rd day of the Lunar New Year, while in the southern part of the country, Xiao Nian is mostly on the 24th day of the Lunar New Year, which is the traditional day of sacrificing stoves in Chinese folklore, and once Xiao Nian arrives, it also means that New Year has begun. In different people's memories, the timing of the New Year doesn't seem to be the same, spanning from the 23rd day of the lunar month to the 15th day of the first month of the new year.

The Origin of the New Year

The New Year, also known as the Festival of Sacrificing the Stove and the Festival of the King of the Stove, was formed as early as during the Xia Dynasty to celebrate the beginning of the year for a great god, Zaowang, who is revered by the folk. In ancient times, many places have different time to sacrifice the stove, and then slowly set the time on the 23rd and 24th of Lunar New Year every year, that is, we are familiar with today's small year.

Sacrificing zaos is an important activity on the day of the Lunar New Year, because the duty of the god of zaos is to control the fire of the stove and manage the food. The belief of sacrificing to Zaoshen has been in our folklore for thousands of years, and it also reflects the people's pursuit of having more food and clothing.
