The origin of boxing

Primitive humans used boxing, kicking, pointing, jumping, rolling and other actions to avoid the invasion of wild animals and hunt for means of subsistence. This is the bud of the most primitive boxing. Legend has it that during the Yanhuang period, Chiyou tribe was good at killing each other. They wore horns, punched and kicked, and scratched around. In the Book of Songs, there is the word "fist is not brave, and the position is chaotic", which is the earliest word "fist" in ancient books. Boxing in Shang and Zhou Dynasties is often called "hand-to-hand combat". It was called martial arts during the Spring and Autumn Period and the Warring States Period. In order to select brave talents and enrich the army, Qi holds a nationwide "wrestling exam" every spring and autumn. Pictographic dances with ornamental and fitness functions appeared in Han Dynasty, such as "Monkey Dance", "Drunk Dance" and "Wuqin Opera". These belong to early pictographic boxing. Boxing routines prevailed in Song Dynasty. The Ming and Qing Dynasties were a period of great development of Wushu, with various kinds of boxing, and many Wushu researchers and boxing works appeared, such as Qi Jiguang's New Book of Ji Xiao, Wang Zongyue's Classic of Tai Ji Chuan, Huang Baijia's Manual of Neijia Boxing, and Chen Xin's Illustration of Chen Tai Ji Chuan.
