What are the types of poverty?

Poverty types are divided into absolute poverty and relative poverty, narrow poverty and broad poverty, long-term poverty and short-term poverty.

Absolute poverty, also known as survival poverty, means that under a certain social production and lifestyle, individuals or families can't maintain the most basic survival needs by relying on labor income or other income, and the labor force itself is difficult to maintain. Relative poverty means relative poverty. On the one hand, it refers to poverty caused by changes in time and poverty standards under different social production and lifestyles. On the other hand, it refers to poverty in terms of differences between different social members and regions in the same period.

Poverty in a narrow sense only refers to poverty in the economic sense, that is, life is not enough to eat and wear, and production is difficult to maintain. It is a traditional economic category. Engel's coefficient is usually used internationally to judge people's living standards or the level of wealth. Poverty in a broad sense includes poverty in a social and cultural sense in addition to poverty in a narrow sense.

Introduction to poverty types

As well as inadequate nutrition, short life expectancy, high infant mortality and a large number of illiterate people. Short-term poverty means that some poor people are below the poverty line in income, but their consumption level is above the poverty line because of saving or borrowing money. This kind of poverty is caused by natural disasters, diseases or other emergencies, and the duration of poverty is generally several months or less than 1 year.

Compared with short-term poverty, long-term poverty refers to this part of people in poverty. Their income and consumption are below the poverty line. They have no savings and can't borrow money to maintain the consumption level above the poverty line. Its characteristic is that this poverty exists for a long time, or it can't be lifted out of poverty for a long time, lasting at least five years, and even if it is lifted out of poverty, it is difficult to get rid of poverty.
