Sages, saints and people with both ability and political integrity are the same?
Sages have multiple meanings. In the history of China, sages are all intelligent and talented people. In European history, sages are important members of the court, usually military advisers to kings or astrologers or fortune tellers in the court [1], and they are all regarded as symbols of wisdom.
In China's traditional culture, "sage" refers to a person who combines knowledge and practice, and is an infinite existence in a limited world. Generally speaking, "those who are talented and virtuous are called saints." Originally, the word was based on the pursuit of "perfection" and "beauty", so the sage's original intention was to point to perfection. But then a hundred schools of thought contended, and all kinds of religions and schools, ancient and modern, Chinese and foreign, also had their own saints, but Taoism's Huang Lao column Zhuang; Confucian Yao, Shun, Confucius and Mencius; Dayu and other Mohist sages are recognized by later generations. In the pre-Qin period, the word sage was not exclusive to Confucianism.
In China, those wise monarchs and emperors in ancient times, and those with lofty morality and profound academic attainments in later generations are called saints. The definition of saint often appears in books where a hundred schools of thought contend. Some religions dedicate saints through certain ceremonies, but some saints are directly regarded as saints by the public. There are saints in Christianity (including Roman Catholic Church, Holy Catholic Church, Orthodox Church), Hinduism, Islam and Santiago in Cuba. Some people in the new era movement also integrated the concept of saints into their beliefs.
