What festival is it to see Bixiao and the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl crossing the bridge on Tanabata tonight?
Various localized versions of Cowherd and Weaver Girl are widely circulated among southern ethnic minorities, such as Goddess and Farmer by Miao people in western Hunan, Cowherd and Weaver Girl by Miao people in Qingshuijiang, Guizhou, Niuniu and Swan Girl by Lisu people in Yunnan, Ribbon by Yao people in Guangxi and Du Lang and Seven Sisters by Dong people in Guizhou.
Although the storyline and even the characters' names of each version are different, and whether the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl end up together is also different, the basic storylines such as "the hero lives with the old cow", "the goddess comes down to take a shower to join the hero", "the fairy is brought back to heaven after marriage" and "the hero struggles with heaven for love" are all the same.
