According to the evidence: deer chess originated in the seventh and eighth centuries ago, the ancient nomadic entertainment, in addition to horse racing, camel fighting and dance, and deer chess and other recreational activities. In the ancient silver mountain, yinshan sumudu ditch bank and uranchabu grassland, have found the ancient deer chess petroglyphs.
Introduction of Deer Chess
Deer Chess pieces are divided into two kinds: Deer and Dog (called "Brain" and "Baoge" in Mongolian). There are mountains and plains on the board (called "Ula" and "Tara" in Mongolian). The board is square in shape, with 5 vertical and 5 horizontal lines that cross to form 25 points. At each end of the vertical line in the center, there is a mountain, one in the shape of a flat top and the other in the shape of a pointed top, with a cross drawn inside, which also constitutes a few intersecting points. When two people play against each other, one side holds 2 tiles, which is the Deer side (the first to go); the other side holds 24 tiles, which is the Dog side. In the game, "the deer jumps and eats the dog, and the dog surrounds the deer". If the dog side can trap the deer side, the dog side wins; if not, the deer side wins. Folk also will this chess "deer eat dog" called "wolf eat sheep", is the traditional enlightenment class game.
Depending on the size of the game, there used to be deer chess with 2 deer and 24 dogs and deer chess with 4 deer and 64 dogs, and now the former is widely played in Mongolian folklore.
Rules of the game
Deer chess is played by two people, one of whom holds "deer" and the other "dog". Before playing chess, set up the chessboard, put 2 "deer" in 2 "mountain" mouth, put 8 "dog" in the chessboard in the four sides of the 8 points. The rules of the game are: the Deer can move around the whole board, while the Dogs can only move around the large square area, and cannot enter the Mountain. The deer and the dog can only move one step at a time, either in a straight line or in a diagonal line.
When playing, the player with the Deer goes first. If the Deer jumps over the Dog from one square to the other in 3 squares of the same route, it eats the Dog that was jumped over and removes it from the board! The dog is taken off the board by eating the skipped dog. The goal of the dog is to trap the deer, while the goal of the deer is to eat all of the dogs, without being attacked by the dog. The goal of the one who holds the deer is to eat all of the dog, and not to be captured by the dog. The player with the "dogs" first puts the 16 "dogs" that were not on the board when the game was set up on the board, one at a time, in any position he chooses. After all the dogs have been placed on the board, they can be moved to surround the deer. When two Dogs are placed next to each other on the same line as the Deer, the Deer cannot eat the Dogs. If the "deer" is surrounded by such a layout, i.e., if the "deer" is encircled, the person who executes the "deer" is judged to have lost the game; if the person who executes the "dog" is jumped and eaten, the person who executes the "dog" is judged to have lost the game. If the person who holds the "dog" is unable to encircle the "deer" due to the number of jumps, he loses the game.
