How many times does it take to build a homestead house in rural areas before it is satisfactory?
Since I can remember, my family has built houses three times. Of the three houses built, I was only satisfied with it in the first few years. Within a few years, I regretted my original decision. As for the reason, I will tell you below. The first time I rebuilt a house
92 years ago, my family lived in a two-story stone house built in the early 1980s. The ground on the first floor is covered with mud and there is no decoration. The beams, ground and rooftop on the second floor are all made of large rectangular boards. My home is in a rural coastal area in the south. It’s very humid in spring and the ground floor on the first floor is muddy, making it uncomfortable to live there.
The floor on the second floor is made up of large stone slabs about 2 meters long and 60 centimeters wide. The uneven ground is difficult to maintain hygiene. If a child falls from the bed, it is equivalent to falling directly on a stone. . I don’t know what our people there think, but they use big stones to make the floor.
After 1992, my dad built a two-story self-built house next to the original chicken coop. The first floor was paved with hexagonal red bricks and the second floor was made of wooden boards.
I was dissatisfied with this house as soon as I moved in. The wooden boards on the second floor were too noisy, especially in the middle of the night when someone went upstairs and made a loud bang, disturbing others' rest.
The most unacceptable thing was going to the toilet in the middle of the night. At that time, a bucket was placed in the living room to make it easier for family members to go to the toilet in the middle of the night. I was really bothered by this at that time. Every time someone went to take a toilet, not only would they hear the sound of wooden boards, but they would also hear the sound of urine. Although we are said to be a family, I still feel ashamed. The second time we rebuilt a house
In 1996, our village was selected as the place to build a grain depot, and my house was also to be demolished. My dad bought a piece of land on the side of the road in the next village and started building a new house. The land for this homestead was purchased. The area is not large, and it is on the side of the road, so the house does not have a yard.
This time building a house puts my family ahead of most villagers in the village. It can be said that my family is the first group in the village to live in a modern house. Because my house is a one-story building, the hall on the first floor is made of terrazzo, and the floors on the second to sixth floors are all ceramic tiles. Each floor has two bathrooms, a kitchen, and three rooms.
At that time, not only relatives were envious of this house, but people in the village came to see my house and were also envious. While other villagers still live in the old stone houses, my family lives in a modern house with tile floors and a flush toilet. The third time we rebuilt a house
In 2005, all the houses including pig pens, chicken coops, and fields that my family used to have were demolished. The village was behind the second house built by my family. A piece of land was allocated to the demolished villagers as a homestead, and my family also purchased a piece of land. After laying the foundation and building an empty floor, I left it untouched.
During this period, a steel mill, an offshore oil plant and several unknown small factories were built next to the grain depot. There are a lot of large cars coming and going in front of my house, and because the neighbor’s house next to it has also been built, the lobby on the 2nd to 4th floors of my house is very dark.
So, we started to work on the land at the back and built a new six-and-a-half-story building. In 2010, the family moved there and rented the self-built house in front to Lian. The steel factory is used as canteen and staff dormitory.
The third self-built house I live in now, I am generally very satisfied with it. The three bedrooms on each floor have independent bathrooms. The space in each room is also very large. Although this house also has no yard, because it is a demolition compensation site, the location of the house is still planned, and the light in each house is still acceptable.
However, my brother is not satisfied with this house. He thinks it is too high and impractical. He should build a three-and-a-half-story villa like other people's houses.
To sum up, self-built houses in rural areas are actually satisfactory for the first few years after moving in. After the novelty wears off and you see other people's newer building styles, you will compare them and feel that your own home is out of date and you will become dissatisfied again.
In a word, if you always compare with the new building style of the villagers behind you, you will not be satisfied no matter how many times you flip the house. After all, life is getting better, people’s pursuits are getting higher and higher, and building The rooms are also trendy.
