Why is the roof of an ancient building so complicated?
The roofs of ancient buildings in China are not only various in style, but also have several components, mainly including roofs and roofs, and there is a strict hierarchy.
1. Roof: The roof is the surface of the building roof, which mainly refers to the part between the ridge and the eaves, occupying a large area of the roof, or the roof is the largest part of the roof.
2. Renovation: In some ancient buildings in China, the roof near the eaves is often different in color from the upper part. For example, the roof is mostly green, but the eaves are a horizontal yellow belt. This kind of ribbon is called "fringing", which is due to the effect of using tiles of different colors on the roof, enriching the color of the roof.
3. Positive Ridge: The positive ridge is the ridge located at the highest part of the building roof, which is the roof ridge formed by the intersection of the front and rear slopes of the roof. Seen from the front of the building, the main ridge is a horizontal line. Generally speaking, among the ridges of buildings, the positive ridge is the largest, longest and most prominent ridge, so it is also called "big ridge".
4. Ridge decoration: In many ancient buildings in China, especially in some high-grade buildings, the ridge of the roof is often decorated with various colors. In addition to the common dome at both ends of the main ridge which coincides with the center of the main ridge, flowers, grass or dragons will be carved or shaped on the front and rear facades of the main ridge.
5. Suspended Ridge: In Ding Dian, Yunnan, buildings with suspended peaks and hard peaks, all ridges except the main ridge are called "suspended ridges". In the building of Xiedingshan, the roof except the main ridge and roof ridge is called "vertical ridge". Vertical ridges hang down along the waves on the mountain surface.
6. Ridge: In the building at the top of the inclined mountain, the ridge below the vertical ridge starts from the tail of Bofeng board and extends between animals, which is called "ridge".
7. Eaves: In a building with eaves, the part of the eaves protruding from the beam frame is called "eaves".
8. Set the beast: At the lower eaves of the building, there is a prominent beast head, which is set on the tenon of the corner beam to prevent the beam head from being eroded by rain. This animal head is called "animal trap".
