Introduction to Taoist drama

Taoist drama is a folk drama of Han nationality that spreads in the Yellow River valley of China. It originated from the rhymes sung by Taoist priests in the Tang Dynasty and developed into Taoist drum words in the Song Dynasty. During the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty, the rap Taoist sentiment spread in northern Shaanxi was put on the stage of opera and became a kind of opera deeply loved by local audiences. Before and after the Taoist sentiment in northern Shaanxi was put on the stage, the Taoist sentiment in Linxian County, which was popular in western Shanxi, was also put on the stage. The Taoist sentiment in Hongdong, which was popular in southwestern Shanxi, was put on the stage twice during Xianfeng and Xuantong years, but it failed to last. After the founding of New China, Taoist dramas such as Hedong Daoqing, Zhoukou Daoqing in Henan and Languan Opera in Shandong, which were popular in the southwest of the mountain, also developed into stage plays. In 2006, Taoist drama was listed in the national intangible cultural heritage list.
