Where is the Qiao family compound in Shanxi?
The Qiao Family Compound is in Qiaojiabao Village, Dongguan Town, Qixian County, Jinzhong City, Shanxi Province.
The Qiao Family Residence is a national key cultural relics protection unit, a national second-class museum, a national advanced unit of cultural relics, a national youth civilization, and a patriotic education base in Shanxi Province. Also known as in the middle of the hall, is located in Shanxi Province Qixian Qiaojia Fort village, was built in 1756, the entire compound was double happy shape, divided into six large courtyard, set 20 small courtyard, 313 houses, building area of 4,175 square meters, three sides of the street.
Surrounded by a fully enclosed brick wall up to more than 10 meters high, the gate for the city gate type hole, is an ancient house with traditional northern residential architecture. There are more than 5,000 pieces of precious relics on display, focusing on the folk customs mainly in the area of Jinzhong, Shanxi Province.
Introduction of Architectural Style
The Qiao Family Residence faces the street on three sides and is not connected to the surrounding houses. Entering the gate of the Qiao Family Residence is an 80-meter-long straight stone paved tunnel, which divides the six courtyards into two rows, north and south, with berms on both sides of the tunnel against the wall. At the end of the west end is the Qiao Family Ancestral Hall, which corresponds to the main gate, and there are four main buildings in the compound, and six gate towers, more buildings, and overlooking pavilions. The roofs of the courtyards are connected by walkways, which are used for guarding the courtyards, showing the living style of the big feudal families in northern China.
The periphery is a closed brick wall, more than 10 meters high, and the upper floor is a female walled battlements, as well as more buildings. The gate is facing east from the west, with a tall roof and a gateway in the center, opposite to the gate is a brick carving of Baishou map wall. Inside the gate, is a stone paved east-west canal, the canal on both sides of the wall with a parapet platform, the end of the canal is the ancestral shrine, and the gate is opposite, for the temple-style structure. The three courtyards on the north side are all turnip gates with dark latticework and dark pillars.
