What country did Go originate in?

Go originated in China.

Go is a strategic two-player board game known in ancient China as "Yi" and in the West as "Go". It is popular in East Asian countries (China, Japan, Korea, etc.) and is one of the four arts of qin, qi, shu, and painting.

Weiqi originated in China and is said to have been made by Yao, and was recorded during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States Periods. During the Sui and Tang dynasties, it was introduced to Japan through Korea and spread to Europe and America. Some scholars believe that Weiqi contains the rich connotation of Han culture and is the embodiment of Chinese culture and civilization.

Weiqi is played on a square grid-like board with black and white discs, which is divided into 361 intersections by 19 straight lines, with the discs walking on the intersections, and the two sides alternating between the two sides. In ancient China, Go was played with two discs on each side of a diagonal star position (diagonal star layout), with the white discs going first. The modern game of Go, developed in Japan, has eliminated the rule of seating, with black first and white second, making the variations of the game more complex and varied. Go is also considered to be the most complex board game in the world.
