What glass is made of

Glass is made of silicon dioxide (SiO2). Silicon dioxide is commonly known as quartz sand. Quartz sand has a high melting point, in the melting, plus co-solvent - sodium carbonate (also known as kerosene), smelting into liquid water glass, plus calcium carbonate (also known as limestone), after a chemical reaction, cooling crystallization, made of ordinary glass.

The main raw materials of glass are: quartz sand, limestone, feldspar, soda ash, boric acid and so on. Common glass chemical oxide composition (Na2O-CaO-6SiO2), the main component is silicon dioxide.

Widely used in buildings, used to insulate wind and light, belong to the mixture.

Glass is a non-crystalline inorganic non-metallic materials, generally with a variety of inorganic minerals (such as quartz sand, borax, boric acid, barite, barium carbonate, limestone, feldspar, soda ash, etc.) as the main raw material, and in addition to adding a small amount of auxiliary raw materials made.

It is mainly composed of silica and other oxides. The chemical composition of ordinary glass is Na2SiO3, CaSiO3, SiO2 or Na2O-CaO-6SiO2, etc., the main ingredient is silicate complex salt, is an irregular structure of the amorphous solid.

There are also mixed with some metal oxides or salts to show the color of tinted glass, and tempered glass produced by physical or chemical methods. Some transparent plastics (such as polymethylmethacrylate) are also sometimes referred to as plexiglass.
