On the third day of the lunar new year, "send the poor god"
"Sending the poor gods" is a very distinctive folk custom in ancient China. It means offering sacrifices to poor ghosts (poor gods). The folk custom of sending the poor gods originated from the enlightenment of Buddhist classics, and its ideological origin came from the "poor child metaphor" in Mahayana's Lotus Sutra.
The poor ghost in folk customs is also called "poor boy". He is weak and short, and likes to wear rags and drink porridge. Even if new clothes are given to him, he will tear them or burn them before wearing them, so "contractions are poor."
In the folk, the third day of New Year's Eve is called Little Year Tide, also known as Red Mouth Day or Red Dog Day. In legend, the red dog is the god of anger, and it is easy to argue with others and provoke right and wrong villains. Therefore, in ancient times, there was a custom of sticking red lips to ward off evil spirits and red dog gods on the third day of New Year's Eve, which meant insisting on right and wrong and keeping the New Year safe and auspicious.
Red also means "extreme poverty", which means poverty. On the third day of the New Year's Eve, every household will sweep out the garbage at home, which means to sweep away the filth and poverty, commonly known as "sweeping the poor", to show poverty, welcome wealth and pray for prosperity in the new year.
