What are the forms of flower dormancy pruning?

(1) Embedding: Embedding the trunk or thick main branches and backbone branches. When cutting off the thick side branches, first, cut off 1/3 ~ 2/5 below the base of the thick branches from bottom to top, and then cut them from top to bottom to avoid splitting. Finally, smooth the wound with a sharp knife and apply a protective agent to prevent pests and diseases or evaporation of water.

(2) Thinning: pruning from the base without retaining the buds at the base. Thinning can make the distribution of branches reasonable and symmetrical, improve the ventilation and light transmission conditions in the crown room, and reduce the occurrence of pests and diseases. The objects of thinning branches are mainly pests and diseases, disabled branches, dense branches with cavities, dead branches, combined branches, excessively dense cross branches, weakly drooping branches and interfering branches. Generally speaking, thinning should reduce the number of branches and buds and prevent excessive new shoots from consuming nutrients, so it is beneficial to flower bud differentiation and flowering and fruiting.

(3) Pruning: Pruning a part of annual branches and keeping a part of lower buds, so as to stimulate the lateral buds below the pruning opening to sprout new buds, increase the number of branches and promote multi-leaf and multi-flowering. At the same time, it can shorten the distance between branches and roots, which is beneficial to the transportation of nutrients. Pruning can also change the position of top advantage, control the size of crown and the length of branches.

(4) Internal shrinkage: that is, shrinkage, that is, pruning of perennial branches, which is mostly used for the renewal of branches or backbone branches, or the tightening of crown. When retracting, thick branches, oblique branches and small wounds should be left under the incision, so that the branches under the incision can flourish or stimulate dormant buds to germinate. The main thing is to make the branches renew to the heart, so as to be younger.
