A Reading Lesson Beyond Expectations
I. Background of the Lesson
Our district uses the Ren'ai edition of the textbook, in which the content of the present perfect tense is arranged in the first book of the ninth grade, but the first round of review of the ninth-grade students in our school is about to end, and the eighth-grade students are unfamiliar with it, and the seventh-grade class 708, the class that I teach, is a special-needs class.
Second, the arrangement of the pre-testing sheet
In the third lesson, Ms. Du Jianmei and Ms. Tang Yan's pre-testing sheet aroused my interest, so I sent the pre-testing sheet of this lesson to the group on Friday, asking students to complete three tasks: 1, enjoy the country music-Take me home, country roads. 2, enjoy the country music-Take me home, country roads. 3, enjoy the country music. 4, enjoy the country music. 5, enjoy the country music. 6, enjoy the country music. 7, enjoy the country music. country roads. 2.Find information about the American place name Nashville,Tennessee. and the singer GarthBrooks.3.The group centers around the question 1.Do you have a favorite singer or band ? What music/song of the singer or band is your favorite ?What do you think of the song or music ?How do you feel when you listen to the song or music ?What facts do you know about your favorite singer ,band ? What facts do you know about your favorite singer ,band or song ? Form a free talk before the lesson: share in the classroom My favorite singer /band is ...? I like ... best . /His/Her song named _______is my favorite .
I think it is .....? .When I listen to .... I feel ... I know much about ....?
Three, the process of teaching
(A) Free talk
Because we have to wait for the students to enter at the beginning of the live broadcast, I played the song Take me home, country roads, and in the soothing music, the students and I enjoyed the joy and peace brought by country music together.
After all the students entered the live broadcast, I started to connect the students for Free talk. Due to the limited vocabulary of the students, Wei Ruizheng, who was the first to connect the broadcast, stammered a bit and expressed some words inaccurately, but our English class representative Wang Runqing, who conducted Free talk, had a standardized pronunciation, informative content, and followed the theme, which showed me the excellent performance of the active learners. I can see the excellent performance of active learners. In addition, Mr. Hua Junxin took the initiative to link up with the microphone, and when he talked about his favorite singers, he used the expressions of date and place of birth that we had just learned, which is rare and valuable.
(2) Objective Display
After the Free talk, I led the students to study the learning objectives of this lesson, and recognized the task of this lesson, and the whole lesson had a clear direction.
(C) Skimming
I asked the students to combine the pictures, quickly jump read the article, summarize the main meaning of the article, 2 minutes later, in the even mike, I found that the first Shi Jing'o answered the article in the representative of country music, obviously did not read the article, but the second even mike Li Zhuang students were able to roughly say that this article is about the change in the country music Sarah's story and an introduction to American country music.
(4) Scanning
At one stage, I asked the students to find out the vein of the article by using Who/What/How as the clues and to circle the words that they couldn't guess based on the contextual content page. In this step, Li Zhuangqi took the initiative to mike the article and told me that the article wrote about the influence and change of country music with its unique style (kind and trust) on Sarah. and changed her, and said which words she had encountered as barriers.
(E) Fast reading
Next, I asked the students to read the article quickly and summarize the meaning of the theme of each of the three paragraphs, and after five minutes, I asked questions. In the first paragraph, I miked a student, Zhang Xinyang, who didn't know how to pronounce Sarah, and told me that it was the story of a girl who was changed by country music.
The second paragraph I miked was by Yan Wang, who summarized it rather simply: this paragraph introduces American country music.
The third paragraph was written by Yao Senyuan, who summarized it as follows: This paragraph talks about Sarah's dream and introduces a famous musician.
It was originally thought that the large number of vocabulary words would affect the students' reading, but I didn't realize that they were all able to find the answers to their questions, which shows the infinite power contained in the students.
(F) Careful reading.
This part, my customary practice is to read one paragraph at a time, asking students to read the first paragraph, answer the questions: Who is Sarah? Where is she from? What is the correct answer?
The second paragraph of the passage I set the question What is country music? What is country music about? I'm not going to go into details.
In the third paragraph, I set the questions What is Sarah's dream? Who is Garth Brooks? The answers to these two questions were also easily found by the students, so I won't go into details.
(VII) Post reading.
As the article is long, if they are asked to retell it, it is difficult for the seventh graders, so the students are asked to use the mind map to draw the main meaning of this article. I gave some prompt words:Who 、Where 、What 、How and so on to complete the Summary of this lesson.
(8) Language points:
In this session, I asked the students to say the sentences they didn't understand, and no one replied, so I gave them the following points:
1. used to used to often, followed by the original form of the verb.
2. ever since then, used with the present perfect tense, which requires the verb to be a continuous verb.
3. each other and one another can mean "each other". In practice, the two phrases are often interchangeable.
4. reminds sb. that+subordinate clause reminds someone of something
(IX) In-class test
The basic usage of the present perfect tense is consolidated by filling in the blanks with the appropriate forms of several verbs. I focus on the structure and function of the perfect tense for the students.
(J) Homework Assignment
I used the platform of Wings Lessons to find some language materials related to music and hobbies for students to read and answer questions, and through the evening's summary results, I think the overall situation of the students is still very good.
To be honest, from the time I saw the assignment to the completion of this lesson, I was very apprehensive about not being able to complete the task smoothly, but through the third time of Mr. Wang's lesson and the inspiration of my classmates, I put a little effort into lesson preparation, and in the framework of the ideal classroom, I completed the traversal of the lesson together with the students, from being puzzled by the text to being enlightened by the in-depth interpretation, especially in the reading of "Country music and hobbies". Especially when we read "Country music reminds us that the best things in life are free - laughter, friends, family, and the beauty of nature and the countryside", my students and I were immersed in emotional abundance and had an unprecedented sense of happiness. We learned how to analyze a big article by using the way of Thinking Maps, that is to say, we learned to use the lines of Who, What, Why, Where and How to sort out the article, and we learned to have conversations and learn how to read by using the lines of skimming, scanning, fast reading, caring reading and post-reading. In addition, we again learned to have dialogues in skimming, scanning, fast reading, caring reading and post reading, dialogues with the text, dialogues with the group members, teachers, and dialogues with ourselves.
"Familiarity is not real knowledge", although we knew how to do the reading class before, but in following the lecturers and students, we rethought the intrinsic charm of the English classroom teaching, and experienced the joyful experience of the English word classroom, which is the most valuable gain.
