The smallest car in the world
The "nano-car" is only 4 nanometers in diameter, which is only slightly larger than a DNA strand. The diameter of a hair is 80 thousand nanometers. You can imagine how small this car is. Previously, some research groups also made nano-scale objects in the shape of cars.
However, according to the researchers of Nano Car, the car they studied is the only one in the world that can roll perpendicular to the axle with four wheels. Finally, the researchers hope to build a mini truck "loaded" with atoms and molecules.
American scientists have successfully made the smallest car in the world by using tiny "parts" in a single molecule. This mini-car consists of chassis, axle and rotating suspension device. The wheel is made of buckyballs, which are small spherical molecules with a diameter of only a few nanometers and consist of 60 carbon atoms. However, although it looks small, it can run like a real car.
James Tourre of Rice University, one of the heads of the research team, said: "Our ultimate goal is to develop a molecular truck that can move objects and work according to people's orders. These trucks are an important test bed to achieve this goal.
They help us understand some basic rules. Scientists will describe the "nano-car" in detail in the latest issue of Nanocommunication magazine. Scientists must use a scanning probe microscope to observe the "nano-car" and also need to prove that it can roll like a car.
Kevin kelly, a colleague of Tourre, said, "It's easy to make nanoscale objects that can slide on the surface. Proving that the car is rolling rather than sliding is the most difficult part of this research project. "
